Visit of Dr. Maurice Bisharat— (Called up at 8:30. Arrived at 10:30.)—Stayed until 5:30.

His visit stimulating—a very interesting person. An Arab, he has lived but 3 years in this country, but has become a citizen, married an American girl & has two children.  Altho his liking for my work had been based on the middle American Scene period, he responded almost at once to my recent things (he had just come from a visit to the Rehn Gallery, (where he said all was confusion, the place being redecorated, my pictures all stacked against a wall,—he had been allowed to go thru them himself). As the day progressed, he became more & more convinced that he had to have one of my pictures, but, since he is just starting his practice, he has no ready money. He had various schemes to accomplish his end. One was to give me a down-payment, and so much a month and then when he had almost enough, to come out with his wife and pick out one. Another was to buy a smaller one now, and then turn it in later on a larger one. The final transaction was that he bought the little elder bush one of B’s (much to our regret, but our necessity over-rode our reluctance) for $200, $100 of which he paid down & then promised to pay the balance in 2$50 monthly payments.
