Up late and tired. A few pencil studies, then to the spring up towards Smithfort to fill my jug, then on towards St. Mary’s. It was even hotter than yesterday the day before, with a few pasty white clouds. St. Mary’s – the detour a fine white dust cover the corrugated humps – the tile works glittering in the vale.
On to Ridgeway thru Daguscahonda (Wild Cat Run) – Lunch at a “Quick Lunch”) – Ridgeway situated on Elk Run and over which there was a concrete bridge with an elk’s head at each end, a poetical thought.
I had in mind the painting of a group of red houses at Johnsonburg; but when I saw them again, they did not have the interest I had hoped for.
Consequently, when I drove on, I found myself growing more & more bored, and convinced I would not paint. And so it proved. I made a few more pencil studies, – and, after getting supper at Springville, I arrived home before dark.
