August 24 – Saturday —
Cool and cloudy until late P.M. when the sun came out full and strong —
Remounted and enlarged the “Spider and Grasshoppers (1948) which I intend to change considerably (yesterday made a tracing of it for historical record) – I will have the spider eating a scarlet underwing
Put up a shelf in the new part of the studio and put a bouquet of red sumac, goldenrod (some of it not out yet, delicate yellow green) – a huge water-parsnip seed-head — in the red pine bark “vase” I made years ago — on it – along with a crow, a Zuni owl, a septarium, a wooden bowl filled with peach-stones, and a zebra swallow-tail.
At bed-time when I turned on the Hi-fi turntable, it made such a noise playing records was out of the question – So I called Art, who suggested putting a drop of oil on a flat wheel that turns the table (this I did, and it took care of most of it) – He said he was going to school again at Rochester, Minn. from Sept. 10 to Nov. 14. It will mean a promotion –
