But oh - the sunset! Coming after the long dark day, an ordinary sunset (if such be possible) would have been thrice welcome. But to crown such a day with a sunset like tonights! –‘twas a wonderful act! It began ever so gently, with a delicate pink low down in the north west. Then - it happened so suddenly that our breaths were bated - first with astonishment next with admiration, and finally with worship for the power behind it. And this is what happened. With a powerful rush, a bright vermillion color swept over the whole west and northwest sky. Ragged and wild as they were, the scarlet clouds were like a huge unchecked mass of flames. The earth glowed in the awesome color. People were brought to their doorways to stare and wonder. Long it stayed and as it died down gradually the vermillion turned to deep crimson and with its dying, we, who had stood with bated breaths, inhaled deeply.
