Aug. 10 - (Tues.).
About noon Harold Olmsted & his son-in-law Roderick in for a visit. Showed them some recent work—H’s enthusiasm was very pleasant to hear. He recited to me the gist of a letter he wrote (but did not send) to the New Yorker critic (who had criticized adversely my new expressions) which was about as nice a tribute as I ever have received from anyone. One thing he wrote was that had I never painted such a thing as my “Mid-June” the world would have lost much.
Letters to Joe Louise & Fred. – which about accounts for the day.
Evening B & I to Hippodrome to see “Mr. Blanding builds his dream house.”—a well done amusing picture, but somehow not universal in its appeal,— that is, so many of us are not in the $15,000 a year income class & will never be building a dream house of the sort they built.
