St. Christopher Art Club participated in Art Alive 2013 at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The Art Club went on a field trip to the Burchfield Penney Art Center and was captivated by the work of Charles E. Burchfield. The Art Club chose to interpret four of his works, Spring Thunderstorm, Dream of Butterflies, Sunspots and Artic Owl and Winter Moon, each representing one of the four seasons. Their display was based on several key concepts students discovered in Burchfield’s work such as seasonal change and cycles, which were reflected in the circular shape used to display their paintings. The energy, rhythm and movement found within Burchfield’s compositions were translated in the dance and music choices, allowing the work come to life in the form of a ballet. The St. Chris display also featured a student dressed as Burchfield "painting" the scene and inviting visitors to doodle and sketch just like the artist. These experiences truly made art come to life for the students at St. Chris and will have a lasting impression. A special thanks to all at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the support provided by The Remember Ryan Foundation.
