This week I did something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Low priority, but it was bugging me that if and when you ever found the “View All WNY Artists” button on the front page of the site, it took you to a long list of placeholder text : “___ is a Western New York artist.” “____ is a Western New York artist.” And so on.
But no more! I updated 9 artists’ profiles on that first page. (I had already done one before.) I’d include links to them here, but they’re mostly pretty short, so instead I’ll link to the page I am talking about, so you can see it in its revised glory if you wish: https://www.burchfieldpenney.org/artists/browse:wny-artist/.
In the course of doing this, I stumbled across a real live (well, pretty thoroughly dead) pair of out (but obscure) lesbian artists FROM THE NINETEENTH CENTURY, which thrilled me more than I can say, and I’ve immersed myself in tracking down more information on them, even though this is on absolutely no one’s to-do list but my own. I haven’t yet finished their profiles, so I’ll save the big reveal for next week.
Oh, and I added a bunch of links to Milton Rogovin’s bio.
As for Aunt Sally, she sends birthday greetings to Tullis, although I think she has him confused with John Foster Dulles, whom she claims to have known back in the day. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I can’t resist: she is hard at work on a topiary of a birthday cake with a single candle complete with simulated flame. Happppppy birrrrrthday, old man!
