Still the intensive work on the drawings – which will probably go on all summer – the early years are pretty well complete. It was particularly interesting to work on the 1915 drawings. In the course of this, the solution of the “all-days” sketch came to me, altho I have not yet finished any. Inspired (as I recall) by the Chinese scroll paintings, which I saw in 1913, the necessary length of the sketches was always a detriment in my opinion – it occurred to me to make them in separate episodes (each complete) but which could be laid end to end if desired.
