Throughout the run of Being There: Bruce Jackson Photographs 1962-2010, the artist is sharing some of the stories behind his photographs.Being There is on view until June 16, 2013. The catalog accompanying the exhibition is available at The Museum Store at the Burchfield Penney.
This is Anthony Bannon in 1974, when he was arts critic for the Buffalo News, before he became director of this gallery for the first time and then director of George Eastman House in Rochester. Tony and I were both a lot younger when I took this picture at the Courtyard Theater. I grabbed an engraving nobody wanted inside that building that day. It's on the wall of my office at UB. It's been great working with Tony on this current exhibit, almost 40 years later, almost as if life were coherent, which we all know it isn't, save when we're telling stories about it.
