Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Midsummer Afternoon, 1952; watercolor and charcoal on paper, 40 x 29 3/4 inches; Vero Beach Museum of Art, Vero Beach, Florida, Museum Purchase with Funds provided by the Athena Society, 2008
Took the Albright class (rain at early morning so no one atned to go out) for a tour of the "Expressionism Show." Everything in it from Velasquez to the vacuities of the non-objectists, and drip-drip artists—An intereresting show; nevertheless—It was wonderful to see again the Van Gogh "Poolroom," Ryder's "Death on a Pale Horse" & Delacroix's "Lion-hunt"—Rico LeBrun's "Rooster on the Cross" one of the best of the semi-abstract—For abstraction—nothing since has been done to equal Braque's "Man with a Guitar(?)"
