Wet snow & sunshine alternating –
I would see our western N. Y. landscape, not in the terms of modern life (even when these are included in a painting) as exemplified by automobiles, airplanes, electricity, broad highways, modern housing and such, but rather in terms of eternal verities of the primeval earth, such as prehistoric peoples and Indians knew, which can never be erased if only we look beneath the surface —
