A beautiful warm day (by afternoon 72°) –
After breakfast as we were getting ready to go food shopping, Bertha called my attention to a great number of bees that were hovering at the east side of the garage – It looked as if they desperately wanted to get into the garage for some reason. I wondered (aloud) how I would get into the garage without getting stung – Bertha said she would into the garage without getting sung – Bertha said she would go in, as bees never stung anyone who wasn’t afraid of them, and she wasn’t afraid. I suggested we wait until we actually were ready to go.
As it turned out, this was best – it seems that all the bees had been doing was basking in the reflected light and head from the garage wall – The shadow of the house had by now covered two-thirds of the garage, and what few bees were left were concentrated in the far sunlit portion.
After our shopping was done we went over to the Lodge for lunch, which was very enjoyable.
Home, and after a few odd jobs, I went to the studio, and spent a couple hours trying to get my recent notes in order.
What I really wanted to do was work in the yard rake up leaves and get things in order. But I was sure I was not physically up to it.
Evening call up Sally – They expect to move into their new home Saturday – She said Andy was being confirmed this year (Pentecost Sunday). After a few minutes I turned the phone over to Bertha so they could visit.
Bed time music (I cleaned the “Seven Last Words” record again and tried it, but it was still bad) So played Beethoven’s Eight Quartet – this is a hard recording, so hard that the true string quartet is more or less lost – but what glorious music!
