A fine winter day. At first a swift sweep of clouds out of the northwest. Soon here and there a sparkling chunk of emerald or blue began to show in the ochre sky; they grew quickly in size and number until at noon it was a blue-sky across which swept the ochre clouds. Such a wonderful blue it seems I never beheld. Once as I was crossing Grunplatz I chanced to look northwards and caught my breath at the sight of a patch of vivid watery green in among some clouds. I could not watch the sky enough. I was intoxicated. The sky’s beauty was enhanced by orange & red trees, which sprung from a violet shadowed glaring snow. At Sunset the sky was clear, but as the cold moon came forth cold white clouds swept across the black sky. The air was a sparkle.
