Out Niagara St. to Virginia (the way I used to walk to work) down Virginia, then to foot of Maryland – thence down canal to Georgia reveling in the warm spring-like day in spite of my cold and grippe-y feeling – cross bridge, down R.R. to Evans’ Elevators, thence to foot of Main. Tired – take car uptown where I shop awhile, and lunch at one-arm “an egg a little better on a poppy” – shop some more then check my stuff and take car to foot of Main, thence under bridge to canal. Smoking ruins of a big fire which a workman told me started the day before at 4 p.m. Cross Mich. Bridge to Island – always here it seems like a different world – The sun shining warm – road miry – great stir around the boats – riveters going - exciting – a few gulls – human scavengers prowling in the dumps around the Jungle – the air fresh –
