Feb. 22 – Saturday –
Not so cold (+10°) – Sunny, with beautiful small cumulous clouds, dazzlingly white – at morning (particularly and at various other times) the air full of snow crystals, which caught the sunlight in bewilderingly beautiful sparkles –
Brought Dave and Peggy over to help with the cleaning – while they were engaged in that Bertha & I went food-shopping at the Plaza –
An hour or so in the studio where I played the same parts* of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, of the Klemperer and Sherzer recordings for confession; Klemperer has the better sound & recording – both are (*The part where Christ cries out in the agony of forsakenness “My god, my god, why hast thou forsaken me?”) good in their own way – Klemperer takes it slower, which, to my way of thinking is an advantage.
All of us to lunch at H.J.’s which we enjoyed as usual.
Afternoon – tried to do some work in the studio but gave it up, and came into the house and mixed a large quantity of paste.
Evening music – Dvorak’s Symphony #7
