A day out of March – a capricious mixture of ever imminent sunshine and snow-flurries. P.M. for walk. The wind tho not strong, was a nervous, curling one, and whirled the snow in all directions. The ground was warm, and the snow melted as it fell. In the pastures and woods it found lodging on the storm sides of grass-tufts and trees; so that it seemed as if a powerful white light came out of the south west. A storm seemed ever approaching, for the western sky darkened regularly only to break up, and perhaps reveal the sun, with sun-lit fissures snow-dotted.
There was wonderful music in the tree branches and often I stood long under a tree.
