Now the houses are lit up by the bright sun! A light frost

Late at night as I lay in bed – the full moon behind the maple tree outside had a peculiar sultry glare about it such as I never saw before.
A few moments ago I heard someone beating a carpet. Perhaps they are a little premature in their vernal house-cleaning, but that does not rob the sound of its expressiveness.
I became interested in the reliques of what might be termed our tag-end pioneer days...What chiefly interested me about them was their picturesqueness, and in some cases, quaint humor and romance of days departed.

Parks, which have been set aside because they comprise natural wonders, and imposing views, are hopelessly banal.
Were it not for my family, and my art, surely I would be in despair. These may be enough indeed to encourage me to live . . .
