A pleasant time with the Blairs—They make a charming couple and their little girl is a gay little elf.

Cold – light snow – In studio making corrections on the Christmas tree market...

"Well its beginning to seem a little like Christmas, now.  Getting ready for Christmas is more fun than the realization...After supper we started to make candy–boxes for the tree..."

I feel that we have a fight on our hands, and that perhaps I have taken the road that so many artists before me have taken, the road to poverty + neglect by the public.

Last week I started on the Autumn to Winter transition.  Four days spent in correction of last year’s tentative compositions — Finally started on the largest—(with misgivings on account of its size —
           Even after I had made a good start, I still worried about the size — (It has now grown to 50” x 75”) – I had Bertha look at it – As usual her faith in my art, and her good sense prevailed “So what if it is larger than anything you’ve done yet? — The subject demands space and size and what you’ve done is beautiful –”
           My mind is on fire now with the other three transitions – Winter-Spring, Spring to Summer and Summer to Autumn —
           A note to Posterity—What I want is a circular museum, large enough to house these four season transitions and six month transitions (1) December to January – (2) February to March (3) April to May – (4) June to July – (5) August to September (6) November to December – (No. 5 already painted –)

Another year—there may not be another year—and if there is, it too may bring its own disturbances and duties, that will cause me to say again—'Well, in another year———

(star doodle) at midnight – out doors. The sky is immense. At the zenith the small remote moon is but a dim glow in the pale violet sky; a deep rumblings from the depths in the west; a steady wind clatters a leaf on a grape vine;

 Painted a picture based on the notes I made back in 1941 (Nov.) of the star-risings, from a lonely road northwest of Warsaw.

A strong wind from the west – driving great massive clouds before it. Up at north end of lot – The sun breaking through at times, sending down shafts of light ...

Today is one of a gray sky and cold snappy air.
