True there are various sights and sounds, but they are in harmony with nature and are heard only as pauses come in my thoughts. 

Afternoon calm & peaceful. A few wisps of clouds appear. Sunset the “yellow light” kind. What a miracle that yellow light is coming as it does, well after the sun has dropped below the rim of the world. All things become saturated with yellow light, even our thoughts.

"Dog-days" are here - Stagnant stifling weather hot, humid air, the sun shining brassily from a haze-thickened sky - In the morning heavy dew, with countless silvery webs of the funnel-shaped kind - 

"Hank over to see us. B & I want them to go slow; but they are anxious to get married at once..."

Bulrushes all along the shore – Small gull-like birds. When I went across to explore they became very excited and angry – they scolded me and flew boldly at my head almost touching me.

 At 6:00 – A walk to the Dutchman’s – Sunburst under long bank of clouds – Down Painter road which is lit up with romantic orange – To see sunlit Dutchman’s from shadowed road reminds me of boyhood rambles up Agar mountain – Sun boiling on edge of distant purple hill – In Hayfields at summit – Hasten to the Chestnuts – Sun just dipping below hill —
     Mosquitos dancing against the afterglow fill the air with a thin tinny hum; wood-thrush yodels from dense treed hillside below. 

This year the wheat-fields seem choked full, and are especially beautiful; in the last few days many have been cut, but some stand yet, varying in shade from almost white to rich hot orange-browns. 

All of us to church (Sally out alone as Red had to work at 12:00) – C [Catherine] M [Martha] & M.A. [Mary Alice]take bus to church as we do not want to overload car. P.M. Hank & Mart take C [Catherine] – S [Sally] & M.A. [Mary Alice] to beach. B [Bertha] & I out for drive at late afternoon – south to Glenwood & west to Boston, home on Cole Rd.

Slept until noon! PM Bertha and I for a drive below Springville and west of East Otto. A glorious day full of beautiful sights and impressions it seems impossible to put them down rationally.
