I walk East in the December Dusk –

A miserable bout with asthma “day fever”? which is best left undescribed.

In studio, worked some on lumber for projected book-shelves in our “library” – also made a drawing for a Christmas idea “Let the Heavens Rejoice” based on the “Orion in Winter.”

So I go to nature when I want sincerity.  In nature we not only find sincerity but also innocence.  

Cold – sunny – scarcely a trace of snow – to city line for green vegetables and a ball-point pen for Bertha...

A cold snow-flurry day. It was a mixture of wind snowflakes and sunshine. The fluffy snow lies lightly on the ice. All morning the air was white. I went out on the porch and examined the little star- shaped flakes.

In the mail the Electronic Improvisations by Sala[i] and electronic music for the ballet by Gassman sent Ernestine + Jim Sample. 

A correspondence with Samuel Golden by means of which our differences (mostly fancied) were cleared up. He said that if I could get him a design reasonably soon it could be included in the 1951 group. So I made a small water color based on a 1920 sunset on Christmas day, with Weaver’s chimney in the foreground. I called it “Christmas Chimney” –

A big storm is exhilarating while it is in progress, but when it is over there is a sense of numbness. Our drive looks like too big a job.
