Spent the day reddingup the studio and getting some pictures ready to show the Murry’s (of Orchard Park) – who had called up last night...
P.M. – B & I to Chestnut Ridge Park – A chilly day with strong S.W. wind. To the western part – park and for walk up the big ravine. Fallen leaves covered the floor of the stream-bed.
Incredibly beautiful warm weather—nasturtiums & [morning glories] have started blooming again.
Milt put the picture window in place today – It exceeds our fondest expectations – A joy to us. Made charcoal drawing of the white owl picture on a 40 x 30 mount, but it seems crowded...
A brisk sunny cool morning following a short season of rain...
In spite of the beauty of the day, I spent it in humdrum task of getting ready to mount some paper – (It seems I never have exactly the right size paper mounted! Which really means that when one is unable to paint, he seizes upon any excuse to justify his not doing so.)
I spent some time wandering around in the woods trying to find just the right spot to carry out my idea, which has obsessed [me] for some time (the lynx woods giving the feeling of the coming of winter into the glory of autumn.) A blue jay kept calling, and sporting in the treetops – a wild blood-tingling call.
A clear sunny windy day – milder – Got out the 1947 ‘Fading November Sun” (Center St. Rd.) and realized the picture would be helped by cutting off 4” at the left...
A grey windy morning. A wonderful season. Amble thru Wade Park at 3:30. Sketching and reveling in the colors.
On all four pictures – work steadily till 6 P.M.
