Some patrons appreciate having a dedicated home for regional art. Others want to recognize the contributions made by Charles E. Burchfield and other local artists. We thank you all for your generous support of our museum, our community, and our mission.

Donors receive the benefit of both a credit and deduction on their New York State tax filing for 2025. The tax receipt will be issued when the gift is received. This receipt will include a receipt number that will be used on the donor's tax filing (even if using TurboTax).
Your donation may be directed to a wide range of funding opportunities at the Center, including exhibition support, artist scholarships, support of education programs like Model Museums or Junior Docents, the Equity In Arts Fund, event sponsorships, and much more.
A step-by-step guide to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity is available here. An online application must be completed by September 30, 2025.
Please contact Jennifer Merlette, Chief Advancement Officer, at (716) 878-3739 or at merletjl@buffalostate.edu with any questions or for more information.
What is the SUNY Impact Foundation NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program?
This is a time-limited opportunity to make an impact through a charitable gift to the SUNY Impact Foundation that can be directed back to the program of your choice at the Burchfield Penney Art Center. You also benefit: 85% of your gift will qualify for a non-refundable New York State tax credit.
There is a $10 million cap on this SUNY-wide program.
Gifts must be at least $10,000 and no more than $100,000.
If the cap is surpassed, the SUNY Impact Foundation will prorate requests. Example: if applications from all SUNY campuses total $20 million, all donors will receive 50% of their requests.
How does it work?
2025:
Funds will be transferred by the SUNY Impact Foundation in early 2026 to Buffalo State University, and the Burchfield Penney works with BSU to ensure timely receipt of funds.
What types of gifts qualify?
Note: in-kind donations, gifts from family foundations, gifts from donor-advised funds are not accepted.
This information is not meant to serve as tax or financial advice. Please consult with your advisor(s).
Many employers double, or even triple, charitable donations. Contact your company's HR department to see if your contribution is eligible for a corporate match.
We accept gifts made through donor advised funds. Our EIN is #16-1596245. Some donor advised funds allow recurring annual grants.
By donating appreciated stock, you can achieve a significantly greater tax deduction and avoid capital gains taxes. It’s a smart way to donate that benefits not only us, but you as well.
You can make a gift directly from your portfolio in just three simple steps:
1) Please alert us that you will be making a gift by transferring stock. Contact Jennifer Merlette at (716) 878-3739 or merletjl@buffalostate.edu. This is an important step as your stock gift will arrive in our account without identification. Please include a mailing address so that your gift is properly acknowledged, and you receive a letter for your tax purposes.
2) You or your broker can then electronically transfer your gift of stock directly to the Center's account at M&T Bank/Wilmington Trust using the following information:
Participant #990 – M&T Bank
Account #175101-000
Agent ID #26668
Institutional ID #26667
3) Once your gift is processed, a tax receipt will be mailed stating the name of the stock(s), the number of shares, and the date it was received by the Center. Your tax advisor can determine the value of the gift for tax deduction purposes. That's it!
