The Burchfield Penney Art Center recognizes that every visitor, artist, volunteer and staff member has unique lived experiences. We celebrate and participate in the diversity of our constantly evolving community, and we believe that experiencing the art and artists of our region empowers us to think and grow.
We strive to create equitable access to exhibitions, collections, programs, and education. However, barriers exist for many artists who have been historically marginalized or under-recognized due to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, abilities, or a host of other reasons. We know there is more work to do to advance and elevate these artists.
The Equity in Arts Fund ensures a greater focus on artists that have not yet been collected or exhibited by the Center- particularly, the inclusion of Black, indigenous, people of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. This fund seeds projects, provides career resources to artists, funds exhibitions and commissions, and supports art acquisition at the Center. Through the Equity in Arts Fund, the Burchfield Penney aims to create a collection and engage in a manner that recognizes diversity an creates a greater, more inclusive experience for all.
