Excerpt from the press release:
"Henry Varnum Poor and Charles Burchfield met through their New York dealer, Frank K.M. Rehn, who concurrently represented such notable American artists as Edward Hopper, Reginald Marsh, Eugene Speicher and Peppino Mangravite...Well known in the 1930s and 40s, Henry Varnum Poor was an accomplished ceramist and oil painter. His landscape, still-life and figure paintings conform to a contemporary realism, although they show the influence of French artists like Cezanne and Matisse."
