Fall 2015 marks Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Art Center’s 30th year as a pioneering cultural presence in Buffalo and beyond. The 30th Anniversary Exhibition celebrates the past, present and future of this acclaimed, grassroots media art center.
Work by founding members, former and current staff, resident artists, and media mined from popular programs is all brought together to comprise a rather inclusive survey. Highlights from Squeaky's myriad youth media initiatives, AxleGrease/ArtGrease public access broadcast (and later Web) TV, Channels: Stories from the Niagara Frontier, and Squeaky Wheel’s DIY media art publication, The Squealer – provide a window into the organization's rich history, many influences and legacies, and its impact upon the broader world of media art in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
In Squeaky Wheel’s spirit of accessibility and community participation, members of the public will also be invited to make their own media by recording 30-second videos to a station installed in the Project Space.
