Through the Elizabeth and Peter Tower Program for Special Needs Art Education at Buffalo State College, the Burchfield Penney initiated a program to train professional museum educators to serve individuals with physical, intellectual or other challenges. Graduate students at Buffalo State College and teachers in Western New York schools developed, implemented and disseminated interdisciplinary curricula and complementary learning resources – including slide sets and gallery guides – for fourth-grade students, adaptable to all levels and learning styles. Works created by the students were subsequently exhibited in the museum’s Education Corridor.
