Patricia Schnall Gutierrez; Package Project. Photo by Marina Font.
Patricia Schnall Gutierrez’s Package Project is an ongoing participatory project activated by viewers. They are invited to engage with the artist in a meditative space where they contribute anonymous recollections of home and domestic labor. She writes, “Each package is folded and assembled, one-on-one with the artist and participant, in a performance setting. Participants are asked to recall repetitive chores and thoughts of home. They then write a private, unsigned note on a small piece of paper that they tuck inside the package.” As the notes are packaged and collected, joining the hundreds of others, the vastness of individual and collective memories accumulates.
Visitors are invited to participate in the performance during M&T September Second Friday in the Project Space starting at 5:30 pm. Circle members are invited for a first-access reception and participation at 4:00 pm.
