Gwathmey Siegel Architects was founded in 1967 by Charles Gwathmey and Robert Siegel. The firm completed over 400 projects ranging in scale and type including; private residences, museums, libraries, government and corporate use, university buildings of all types throughout the United States and abroad as well as high-rise housing and hotel buildings. Charles Gwathmey passed away in June 2009 after a long battle with cancer. The firm’s work has published extensively and exhibited in museums and educational institutions. The firm received numerous design awards including the prestigious National American of Architects Firm Award given to one firm annually for excellence in design and professional practice as well as the New York City AIA Medal of Honor. The firm continues to function as Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman Architects in New York City.
Mr. Siegel will deliver a projected image presentation covering the work of the Gwathmey Siegel beginning with the iconic residence which Charles Gwathmey (1938-2009) designed for his parents in Amagansett, New York as well as other notable residences. In addition to the Burchfield Penney Art Center, the presentation will include the expansion of the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, the Crocker Museum in Sacramento and the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle. University related projects will include the renovation of the Yale School of Architecture and new building expansion which includes the Art History Department and Arts Library. It will also include Nanyang Polytechnic which involved the creation of a new 75 acre campus and 30 buildings for 12,000 students in Singapore. The United States Embassy building to the United Nations Center in New York, Morgan Stanley World Headquarters Tower in Times Square NYC as well as several high rise hospitality and residential projects.
