Artist/Instructor: Jennifer Koury
Explore the quiet magic of seasonal shifts in this reflective watercolor workshop inspired by the natural landscapes of American artist Charles Burchfield. Renowned for his vivid, emotional depictions of nature, Burchfield masterfully captured the quiet tension between winter’s stillness and the first stirrings of spring. Through guided instruction and open studio time, explore nature’s beautiful in-between moments, of winter turning to spring. Celebrate the subtle colors, textures, and moods of the late winter landscape: the birds returning and calling to one another, dried seed heads blowing, and lingering snow with the first signs of bursting growth. Draw inspiration from Burchfield’s unique visual language, while exploring watercolor techniques to emphasize atmosphere and emotion. Participants will experiment with watercolor’s fluid movement, including washes, layering of transparent color, and expressive brushwork. Let the hidden energy of winter, and its hushed palette, spark your creativity to capture what lies between the seasons.
