What do you see? I see two fish swimming within a steel armature that curves naturally. One fish is at the top and the other near the bottom of the sculpture. The top of the artwork is about 5 feet high with a lily pad and what looks like seagrass waving in the water. The fish on top looks like it is in its natural habitat. The fish at the bottom is also in its natural habitat but looks like it's nibbling on a soda can. The artwork conveys an environmental message, how you discard your garbage will trickle down to hurt others.
The sketch prompt is to draw an underwater natural scene and include an item that doesn’t belong. You might not have to think too hard about what to draw since most of us have seen way too much garbage being tossed into our own neighborhoods and communities.
Time to TALK. The artist’s message is clear. Everyone needs to be environmentally concerned. The clever title for her sculpture, Trickle Down, says so much. What are some ways you take care of the environment?
