Anna Chiaretta Lavatelli is an artist raised in Western New York now based in Chicago, after working out of Southern California and New York. She works with video, installation, sound and performance, both collaboratively and independently. She received her BA in Media Studies and Photography at the University at Buffalo and an MFA in Visual Arts at the University of California San Diego. She has performed with the Buffalo-based arts collectives Kamikaze and the Real Dream Cabaret, and since leaving Buffalo has collaborated with musicians, artists, and high school students in La Jolla and San Pedro, California. Since graduate school she has maintained a focus on collaboration and community through filmmaking and performance. Currently she is researching stories born out of the Lavatelli family archive, constructing narratives born out of historical artifacts.
Lavatelli's work has been screened and exhibited in cities across the United States, Europe and Mexico.
Lavatelli is the daughter of artists Polly Little and Mark Lavatelli.
