Tony Carretta is an American glass artist that has been self-employed as an artist since 1976. He has been exhibited widely throughout the U.S., having been represented by major galleries such as Heller Gallery, NYC; Marx Saunders Gallery, Chicago; Imago Galleries, California; and many others nationwide.
In 1996, he founded New Arts Projects, located in Litchfield, Connecticut. It is here that the rustic setting and the creativity Carretta lent to making the space unique made the gallery the go-to spot for interesting exhibitions. During its tenure, the gallery featured some of the most innovative and avant-garde artists, such as: Sol Lewitt, Bernard Chaet, Tom Doyle, as well as many other notable and emerging artists. It was with this gallery that Carretta hopes to “take nontraditional spaces and do things with art that create a kind of synergism that you can never get in an ordinary gallery situation. Carretta works with these artists to explore their process, attitudes and plans to succeed in making and marketing their work. He has held a number of workshops on different topics, but all are geared towards helping artists understand the art world as well as clarifying a person's goals in regard to their work.
In 2010, he founded New Arts Publications, which backed the releasing of his book “Studio to Wall, The Commerce of Art”, which focuses on 30 years of experience in the business of art for Charretta. He is also featured in a multitude of permanent collections including: The National Gallery, Washington DC; Corning Museum of Glass, Corning , NY; Museum of American Glass, Wheaten, NJ; and at The White House, Washington DC.
