Mansawear owner and fashion designer, Nita Brown, was born in Ghana. As the daughter of a diplomat, she left for her first overseas trip at the age of seven, traveling to the Czech Republic. Nita completed her secondary schooling in Ghana, received a B.A. in History from Columbia University and an M.B.A. in International Management from Georgetown University.
For over a decade, Nita has used fashion as a vehicle for cultural pride, economic empowerment, and community uplift. Her work blends traditional Ghanaian fabrics with modern American style, creating custom pieces known for their bold elegance, quality craftsmanship, and ethical production. Through her business, she provides employment to nearly 300 women in Ghana, supports K-12 education in Rochester, contributes to an orphanage in Kenya, and helped raise $7,000 for a mammography machine in rural Ghana. Along the way, she’s earned widespread recognition, including being named a 2025 Rochester Business Journal Woman of Excellence and a 2024 Small Business Council Spotlight Finalist.
