Marcelo Florencio is a Brazilian-born, Buffalo-based studio artist working in glass. He studied at the University of San Diego, California (Craft Center Program), the Studio at the Corning (N.Y.) Museum of Glas, the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, and the Pittsburgh Glass Center.
Among other group shows, Florencio participated in 100 American Craftsmen at the Kenan Center in Lockport, N.Y. in 2008 and 2009, the 10th Annual Fine Craft Show at Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, N.Y., and the 2011 and 2013 Art in Craft Media at the Burchfield Penney. In a statement on his website, he notes, "I am determined to use flameworked glass as an art form that will be influential in continuing the Brazilian tradtion of creating new hybrid identities by negotiating global cultural influences in innovative ways."
