Born in Minnesota, Lorna Berlin earned a bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and master’s degree from Iowa State University. Known for her watercolors, often inspired by landscape details, she exhibited work in regional galleries in Amherst, Buffalo, Lockport, and Niagara Falls, and won six first-place awards at the Allentown Art Festival. She was an exhibiting member of the Buffalo Society of Artists. Her work also was shown in group exhibitions in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma. One of her paintings was used for a 2006 Garden Walk Buffalo promotional poster and three were reproduced by the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo.
In addition to painting, Berlin taught and demonstrated techniques across the US and Canada, including an annual residence at the Chautauqua Institution beginning in 1989. She also taught at Daemen College, St. Lawrence College, Niagara County Community College and in the Amherst and Williamsville school systems. Among her honors are named scholarships by the American Association of University Women and the 1981 Achievement Award from the Town of Amherst.
