Joy Brandys dedicated her life to art, finding beauty and meaning through bold color in painting, interior design, sewing, and flower arranging. As a student at Villa Maria College and Buffalo State College, she excelled in both fine arts and design, later founding J. Van Brandys Designs in 1985.
Her mixed-media paintings, particularly her Abstraction of Flowers series, reflected her love for vibrant hues and expressive compositions. An Exhibiting Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, Joy’s work was widely exhibited, earning recognition, including third prize in the Western New York Artists Exhibition (1999).
A passionate supporter of the arts, she was deeply involved with the Burchfield Penney Art Center and the Western New York Collectors Club. Even in challenging times, her art sought to uplift, echoing Picasso’s belief that “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
Joy’s legacy lives on through her art, a testament to her love of color, creativity, and the joy she brought to the world.
