John Smigielski is a percussionist currently based in Buffalo, NY. He is a passionate advocate for new music, with a particular focus on emerging composers. His interest in interdisciplinary collaboration has led him to work with dancers, poets, and visual artists. John has performed with Ensemble Signal, Talujon Percussion Group, Uusinta Ensemble, Buffalo Chamber Players, Slee Sinfonietta, Wooden Cities, electronic music pioneer Emil Schult, and Hans Tammen’s Third Eye Laptop Orchestra. He has also worked with composers such as Louis Andriessen, George Lewis, Julia Wolfe, Jeffrey Brooks, Josh Levine, Chinary Ung, Steven Stucky, Joshua Fineberg, and Tim Feeney. Additionally, he has worked with Brad Lubman, Ken Thomson, Mark Stewart and Vicki Ray. John was a 2017 performance fellow at the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival and has also performed at the Black House SoCal Intermedia Workshop, June in Buffalo, Chosen Vale International Percussion Seminar, and SUNY Conference on Instructional Technology. John received his M.M. degree from the University at Buffalo.
