Jess Wegrzyn is a costume designer currently based in Buffalo, New York. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater with a focus in Technical Theatre and Design from the University of Buffalo.
With her long and extensive experience within the Buffalo theater community, she has designed for the Irish Classical Theatre Company, Second Generation Theatre, and The Kavinoky Theatre within the Buffalo area, earning multiple Artie Award nominations for Outstanding Costume Design. Wegrzyn has also acted as the resident costume designer for Torn Space Theater since 2012; through her work at the Theater, she is a collaborator on the Camp Everything multimedia artwork project, spearheaded by artist Adam Weekley and the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
Her costume work for Torn Space’s They Kill Things & Motion Picture was featured in the January 2017 issue of CHANCE Magazine. She has worked for a multitude of costume design teams for a variety of films, including several Buffalo-based films: A Quiet Place Part II, and 2022 Academy Award-nominated Nightmare Alley.
Wegrzyn’s appreciation for theater began in performance, as she “found a fascination with and passion for uncovering the details, which led to a career in design.” She believes that “In color, pattern, silhouette, and texture there is intention, history, spirit and wonder” [1]
