Jerry Ross (born Gerald Gross) studied at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and has exhibited his art in Buffalo, across the western U.S. and in Italy. While he credits Abstract Expressionists and 19th-century Italian artists as being influential, one might compare his portraits with those of the American painter and teacher Robert Henri (1865-1929), who announced the formation of The Eight in 1907; published the influential art instruction book, The Art Spirit (1923), and was a leading figure of the Ashcan School of urban realism. Ross calls his personal style, “American verismo.” His portrait of Martin Sostre has been used for the Martin Sostre Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Sostre.
