James A. Allen is Professor Emeritus at Daemen College in Amherst, New York, and now lives in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He holds a B.F.A. from the University of Notre Dame and M.F.A. from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Among the 14 solo exhibitions he has had in Western New York, Rochester, Ithaca, Toronto, Pennsylvania and South Carolina are: I Am Poor, I Am Hungryin the Czurles-Nelson Gallery, SUNY Buffalo State (2014) and 24/12: James Allen and Isabelle Pelissier at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center (2006). A long list of selected group exhibitions includes showings across the U.S. and in Toronto, Canada. He received numerous awards from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Purchase Award at Rutgers National Works on Paper in 1996, as well as others.
