Carolyn Tennant

Carolyn Tennant is a media artist and curator whose interdisciplinary practice reflects an interest in the techno-cultural history of early electronic and media art. She has worked at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center since 2006, as Media Arts Director (2006-2013), and currently as its archivist, overseeing the organization and digitization of 40-years worth of interdisciplinary arts documentation. In 2007 she helped coordinate the Migrating Media initiative, a state-wide partnership project developed to protect at-risk analog collections and to safeguard our moving image heritage. A former board member and current advisor to Independent Media Arts Preservation, she has presented on issues related to video preservation at the Association for Moving Image Archivists, and at international conferences and national venues on her research on the histories of media arts in upstate and western New York. Since 2002 she has worked with The Experimental Television Center on projects including its online archives, Video History Project, and the two-volume text "The Emergence of Video Processing Tools" (ed. Kathy High, Sherry Miller Hocking, Mona Jimenez, 2014), as an editorial assistant and contributing author; her work has been featured in both of the Center's DVD collections, "ETC: Early Media Instruments" and "Experimental Television Center: 1969-2009" (distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix and Video Data Bank). She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Hampshire College and her Masters of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Department of Media Study.
