Barbara Hart is an artist living in Buffalo, NY. She grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and received a bachelor’s degree in English from Louisiana State University. In 2006 she and husband Daniel Hart opened a small art gallery in the Allentown section of Buffalo. Showcasing the work of regional artists, Studio Hart became a vital part of the Buffalo arts scene for the next 10 years.
Hart primarily paints and sculpts, always seeking the individualized narrative. While her inspiration is personal, her intent is to create a means for the viewer to “recognize” or discover their own personal narrative through her work.
Hart’s sculpture and painting has been shown in a one-person show at Pine Apple Company 2018, and in two successive juried art exhibitions at the Burchfield Penney Art Center — Art In Craft 2015 and 2017. Respectively, jurors were Wayne Higby, Professor and Chair of Ceramic Art at Alfred University, and Monica Moses, Editor-in-Chief of American Craft magazine. She’s also shown work in numerous member’s shows at the Western New York Book Arts Center, and at Hallwalls. Her Little Wood People have been juried into many different arts markets in the Buffalo area including the Elmwood Avenue Festival for the Arts, the Allen West Art Festival, and the Burchfield Penney Artist Market among others.
