March 13 – Mon –
Damp, chilly weather–, raw east wind – wet snow & rain – A songsparrow by the studio singing –
Got to work on the wild bleeding-heart picture— (in memory of a large colony of these delicately beautiful plants which was situated on the east end slope of the Big Woods – and which was completely wiped out when a summer collage was built there a few years ago) – A completed subject, which “taxed my ingenuity to the utmost” Did not finish it – Bertha thought it was beautiful even in its unfinished state –
March 14 – Tues.
Cold – raining —
Saw a robin on top of Binkowski’s house-roof – Against the sky, he showed only as a dark object, no color –
Finished work on the bleeding-heart picture –
