Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967)

The famous stage actress Katherine Cornell owned Over the Dam. Burchfield wrote about seeing it in an exhibition The Theatre Collects American Art, writing on Friday, November 3, 1960:

Evening - to opening at the gallery "The Theatre Collects" — (in which my "Over the Dam" belonging to K. Cornell was included—) An interesting, varied show - I was happy to see my picture again — it has "worn well," It gave me a vague pang of nostalgia. A large crowd — the usual boresome ogling and chatter — We decided we should not attend another — We were amazed to look out and see snow falling —
