embroidery, felt
"My work is about exploring structures and forms through simple manipulation of shape and texture. The natural landscape, created in the folds and tears of the tectonic plates as they move over the surface of our planet, direct my felt and embroidery works in terms of their developing forms.
Each work is hand felted then hand pleated in order to create the hills and valleys. The embroidery is meant to act as the manipulating force, altering the objects' original form. The embroidery connects open valleys, smooths hilly formations and meanders steadily through these small landscapes. This manipulation is similar to how we change our natural landscape through the development of infrastructure; changing the face of the geography of the Earth." -Tegan Ford
