Dear Burchfield:
I think I got ahead of you on getting a picture done. I started a canvas about Dec 1st and finished it about the first of January. It is not too bad, perhaps. There has been no more work done since then however, except that yesterday I got pretty blue about having done nothing for so long and started a headof Jo. Just now it looks like a not too skillful study by an art student.
The Temple medal award was unexpected on my part as I had about decided that I was not of the prize winning kind. It seems to have been something of a compromise as those things often are. I have not yet received the medal, but shall bite it well with my back teeth when I do. Best regards to you and Mrs. Burchfield.
Yours sincerely
E. Hopper
