This composition was made during my 2021 fellowship at Dieu Donne Papermill in Brooklyn, New York. The stag, hops and cherry motifs reference domestic textile designs printed in the 1910s by my ancestor’s company, Carl Breuer and Sons. These forms have been transformed from colorful printed linen, to monochrome, cast-cotton sculpture. In this reimagined form, it resembles a low-relief relic from some ancient past, emerging as though it had been uncovered in an archeological dig site.
