9/27-10/31 “Dream Displacement and Other Projects:” an exhibition of works by filmmaker Paul Sharits, Associate Professor of Art, Center for media Study, SUNYAB. The exhibition will present many aspects of Sharits’ work which is largely orientated toward the exploration of precisely defined perceptual responses of the viewer to optically structured filmic experiences. A selection of “Frozen Film Frames” drawings, and film scapes dating from 1966 to 1976 will be exhibited in Galleries 9 and 10, and two film installation pieces—“Dream Displacement ‘76” and “Shutter Interface” (four-screen projections with quadraphonic sound) will be shown in Gallery 16. The exhibition will be enhanced by the showing of all of Sharits’ other films and by a series of lectures by filmmakers and critics. The films will be shown in the auditorium at 8:30 p.m. on October 4, 11, 12 and 18 with informational discussions by the filmmaker himself following the screenings. The lectures by Tony Conrad, Lizzie Borden, and Standish Lawder will be held in the auditorium at 8:30 p.m. on October 5, 14, and 19 respectively.
