On September 30, 1960 Charles Burchfield wrote in his journal (Vol. 59, Pg. 184):
“Started work on a new picture – the title came to me as I started work – “The White Wings of September” – It is based on the 1951 “Wind-blown Asters (Zimmerman Rd.)”
