Dear Burchfield,
Thanks for your very kind letter about the Corcoran prize. You probably think much as I do about prizes, but after all $2000 is acceptable under about any circumstances.
I had to pose with Mrs. Roosevelt at the show doe a number of shots, which rather hurt my conscience, but I could not get out of it very gracefully. Jo and I stayed in Washington a week and had a great time.
How is the work going with you. I’ve only done two small canvases this winter.
Im hoping to get something else before I go away for the summer, but have nothing very definite in my head at present.
Jo says she thinks the portrait “Life” did of you for your articles is terrible of you, and she is getting very much excited about the rather bad things they have done of me. It seems that all wives expect their men to be handsome for the public.
Quite a large order for the photographer.
Yours sincerely
E. Hopper
